Onion rings are a popular fried snack or side dish made from sliced onions that are battered and deep-fried until they become crispy and golden brown. Onion rings are known for their savory and slightly sweet flavor, as well as their crunchy texture.
Ingredients:
2 large onions
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup corn starch
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups bread crumb
Cold water as required
Vegetable oil, for frying
Optional: Additional seasonings like paprika, garlic powder, or onion powder for extra flavor
Instructions:
Prepare the Onions:
Peel the onions and cut off the ends.
Slice the onions into rings of your desired thickness. Separate the rings and set aside.
Prepare the Coating:
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and corn starch.
- Pour cold water into a flour mixture and whisk it until no lumps remain.
Coat the Onion Rings:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer.
- Dip each onion ring into the batter, making sure it's well coated. You can use a fork to help with this process.
- Finally, coat the onion ring with breadcrumbs, pressing the breadcrumbs onto the onion to ensure they adhere well.
- Place the coated onion ring on a plate and repeat the process with the remaining rings.
Fry the Onion Rings:
- Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil.
- Fry the rings for about 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the onion rings from the oil.
Once all the onion rings are fried and drained, serve them hot.
Enjoy the onion rings with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, ranch dressing, or any other sauce you prefer.
