Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake is a delicious dessert made with chocolate as one of the main ingredients. It comes in various forms, but the common characteristic is its rich, chocolatey flavor. Here's a general overview of how chocolate cake is typically made:

Ingredients:
  • 100g melted butter
  • 100g Sugar
  • 150g All-purpose flour
  • 50g Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 10g milk powder
  • 10g custard powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 3 eggs
  • Hot water or coffee (to enhance the chocolate flavor)

Frosting ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (confectioners' sugar)
  • 1/3 cup milk (you can use whole milk or any milk of your choice)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 180 °C, and grease and flour your cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  • Dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, custard powder, and milk powder.
  • Wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the wet ingredients: melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk them together until well combined.
  • Add eggs to the buttery sugar mixture.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently fold until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans, dividing it evenly if you're making multiple layers.
  • Bake the cake in the preheated oven for about 25–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pans for a few minutes. Then, transfer the cakes onto a cooling rack to cool completely.

Frosting instructions:

  • In a medium-sized bowl, sift the cocoa powder to remove any lumps. This step is essential to ensure a smooth frosting.
  • In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until it becomes creamy and smooth.
  • Gradually add the sifted cocoa powder to the creamed butter, mixing on low speed until well combined.
  • Next, add the powdered sugar to the mixture, about 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition. Continue until all the powdered sugar is incorporated into the frosting.
  • Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Mix the frosting on medium speed until it becomes smooth and fluffy.
  • If the frosting appears too thick, you can add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency. If it's too runny, you can add more powdered sugar.
  • Once your chocolate frosting is ready, you can spread it onto your cooled cake using a spatula, or you can pipe it onto your desserts for a more decorative look.

Enjoy homemade chocolate cake. Remember, there are countless variations and recipes for chocolate cake, so don't hesitate to experiment and find the one that suits your taste preferences best.
