Mac n Cheese is a classic comfort food dish made with cooked macaroni pasta and a creamy cheese sauce. The basic recipe involves boiling macaroni pasta until it's tender, then combining it with a creamy cheese sauce made from ingredients like butter, milk, and various types of cheese.
2 cups elbow macaroni or any pasta shape you prefer
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of your favorite cheeses)
2 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Bread crumbs (for topping, optional)
Instructions:
Cook the pasta:
In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add a generous amount of salt.
Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
Drain the pasta and set aside
Make the cheese sauce:
In a medium pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the flour and whisk constantly for about 1–2 minutes to create a thickening mixture.
Add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens.
Add cheese and seasonings:
Reduce the heat to low.
Add the shredded cheese to the milk mixture.
stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
Add salt, and black pepper.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce.
Stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
Bake (optional):
If you're using a baking dish, bake the mac and cheese in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
